Nod’s Tacklebox o’ Fun

A Collection of Synthcore Cover Songs

Re-Constriction

The fact that this album exists will never cease to amuse me. This is a follow-up of sorts to Re-Constriction’s Shut Up Kitty , a compilation of covers of popular songs by “synthcore” artists. Some of the covered artists are Hanson, the Cardigans, No Doubt, Prince, Alanis Morrisette, and Vanilla Ice (the cover of “Ice Ice Baby” is worth the entire CD), covered by Purr Machine, Society Burning, HotBox, Mindless Faith, Alien Factor, and the WFG All-Stars. The Hate Dept. cover of Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round” is actually kinda sweet – well, until Siebold starts yelling. Alien Factor’s cover of “You Oughta Know” is a riot – loud guitars, crushing beats, and screamed and distorted vocals about a failed relationship. Some of these tracks are actually worthwhile outside of the parody context, like SMP’s cover of “The Metro” by the synthpop band Berlin, and Oneriod Psychosis’ cover of “Animal Magnetism” by the Scorpions. This disc isn’t something that you’ll listen to that much farther down the road, but for now, it’s certain to leave you in hysterics.
