Darling Violetta

The Kill You EP

Opaline

Sometimes when listening to a record, you sit back and ponder just whom the band envisions as their audience. Darling Violetta’s The Kill You EP is one such case. The heavy Kate Bush influence is several years out of date, and Cami Elen’s wafer-thin voice cannot overcome the embarrassingly pretentious arrangements sprinkled with strings and pseudo-Middle Eastern motifs. Elen’s voice honestly sounds like Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go’s after sucking a helium balloon. The band may feature some good musicians, and Cami Elen may be better served singing in a different style, but none of the parts fit.
