Change is a Sound

Jade Tree

Strike Anywhere’s socio-political hardcore is definitely not a new musical recipe, but their talent and songsmanship set them apart from the vast majority of bands of this ilk. These songs are flat-out catchy without being overtly poppy. Thomas Barnett’s vocals are some of the best I’ve heard – raspy, melodic, even in key. The drumming sometimes veers into off-balance breakbeats which grab your ear before you’re pulled back into the flow of the song, ready for more. I imagine these guys whip up quite a singalong frenzy given the right crowd and a hardcore dance floor. You can catch Strike Anywhere on the Plea For Peace tour this summer with Hot Water Music, Alkaline Trio, and a number of other bands.
