Peter Warren + Matt Samolis

Bowed Metal Music

American Composers Forum

Heavy Metal. No better term for it. OK, to come clean, Bowed Metal Music is exactly that: pieces of metal played with bows. To be more exact: a long curve of sheet metal, “decorated” with large cymbals, hanging from the ceiling, played with bows. Thus, the two-man troupe comprising Messers. Warren and Samolis, in that two men are necessary to play this large metal cello, is captured live, for more than an hour, touching bow to metal. It’s pretty strange, different, yet quite pleasing to the ear. The high-end snob factor is tough to realize unless you tie the philistines down, but if they ask what it is…
