Dwarves
The Dwarves Are Young And Good Looking
Epitaph
Don’t let the title fool you! Lock up yer daughters! And your livestock too, for that matter. The band too politically incorrect for the label that gained notoriety for having albums titled “Dope, Guns and Fucking In the Streets” is back. After a prolonged absence/exile from being dropped from Sub Pop for the scandalous faking of guitarist HeWhoCannotBeNamed’s death (amidst all the other real punker/heroin-chic deaths Sub Pop could exploit), the Dwarves are back with some real repugnant punk rock. Basking in the glow of their dismissal, they’ve returned with some of their best burnt offerings skewered on the shish kebobs of hell. Hedonistic, sexist, antisocial and even antihuman, the Dwarves are now confirmed survivors who didn’t compromise the original themes of the punk mentality during its ’90s PC saturation and despite all this self-indulgence, they, unlike the Mentors, have retained their musical capacity to pull it off. The sign of the Skull and Crossboners says it all.
P.S. The liner notes contained a “modified” copy of the Sub Pop press release concerning the Dwarves dismissal which is good for a few laughs despite its “heartfelt” intentions. Epitaph Records, 2789 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90026
