The Gadjits
At Ease
Hellcat
Great ska and pop from the “next music scene of consequence,” Kansas City, MO. OK, it’s great. It’s very catchy, poppy and all that crap. I mean, this is the kind of very danceable ska that sounds almost like it puts a hot summer night on the beach right in your living room from the very first track.
What I don’t understand, though, is the Gadjits’ introduction of gangsta rap into their lyrics. It seems like all their songs are about getting in fights with people at parties (“Backup”) or getting down with ska-whores (“Party Girl”). Great music, with excellent poppy organs and stuff, so I have to like it simply because they play some of the most upbeat tunes around. Your call on the lyrics, though.
