Perfume Tree
Feeler
World Domination
It’d been an off day if I deprived myself the simple pleasure of a thorough listen to Perfume Tree’s Feeler. As any vinyl fetishist or DJ will attest, “electronica” CDs have often been dismissed as commercial pap for the unscrupulous ears of a media-blitzed public. But when an album such as Feeler comes along, it only works to the genre’s benefit.
The haunting vocals and varied rhythmic structures throughout Feeler will touch a nerve in the heart of the music industry. Perfume Tree offer no apologies for their stance, and do what they do. Digital ambience swims amongst the drum and bass, while the later portion yo-yo’s to and from intellegent D&B and downtempo terrain. Hopefully arrogant arena rockers will rediscover their Guns and Roses roots and stay the fuck away from exceptional acts as Perfume Tree. Portishead, Coldcut fans, here’s something for the headstrong. A&R people, yes, this is the hype.
