Guns N’ Roses
Reuse your Illusions I & II
Foolsday
Here is a double-CD set of gunk music from what’s left of Guns N’ Roses, a successful ’80s band. Axl Rose, the frontman, with the help of some borrowed hands and co-producer Trent Reznor, has produced this totally adventurous, experimental album. For quite a while it was heard in the grapevine that Axl was toying with the idea of making a goulash of metal, techno, industrial, and pop, and that Slash, the now ex-Gunner’s guitarist, would not lend his hand to such a thing.. Now that Slash is out, Axl has had his way with the band and this album.
For a long time, the band was in search of a guitarist. They considered Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen, and many others for the job, but it’s a surprise Dave Navarro, who is already sharing his time with two other bands, should play the guitar for this album. New guy Joe Buggermi plays rhythm (catch Axl himself playing a 6-string here and there), and Matt Sorum, the only other original member, is on the drums. A long list of guest appearances includes a grunt-here-a-scream-there from Reznor, Brett Michaels (former Poison frontman, and a close buddy to Axl), RuPaul, and Carmen Electra (she’s on the cover almost naked, wet and wild).
About the music… one word: mindless. More: tasteless noise. Enough said. Is Guns N’ Roses good enough for this decade? NOT!
