Everybody Hollerin’ Goat
Birdman
There are pockets of the U.S. producing music that’s as strange and different as that coming from halfway around the world. The sounds on Everybody Hollerin’ Goat , coming from near Como, Mississippi, easily prove that theory, with fifteen tracks of music that is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. This is full of blues influences – not the blues, but the sources that inspired the blues themselves. Besides the occasional Delta guitar, there’s also a drum corps (playing in a heavily rhythmic marching style) and a fife player, whose near-key whistlings often float eerily above the din.
Everybbody Hollerin Goat is mostly drum and fife music, with a set of songs near the middle that’ll make you feel like you’re hanging out on the porch on a soft Mississippi evening. The near-ten minute encore of the opening “Shimmy She Wobble” is a trance experience like nothing you’ve heard. Birdman Records, 1409 W. Magnolia, Burbank, CA 91506
