Damien Jurado

Rehearsals For Departure

Sub Pop

Pulling with tender strains like some underground Bob Dylan of the late ’90s, Damien Jurado may be Sub Pop’s weight to put on the musical scales opposite bands like the Murder City Devils, but regardless of why Sub Pop released this album, it’s a damn good thing they did. With production and musical help from Ken Strigfellow, Damien Jurado has created a brilliant series of songs that will shine alongside your favorite Nick Drake and Vic Chesnutt CDs. From the sparse heart tugging of “Curbside,” which makes me think of snow, to the almost driving “Letters & Drawings,” Rehearsals For Departure shows tremendous growth since 1997’s Waters Ave. S. CD, and promises even greater hope for the future.
