The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays U2

Music Club

Why do records like this get made? Are U2 fans really clamoring for elevator Muzak versions of their favorite band’s greatest hits? Be honest, if we’d run this review last month, you’d have thought it was one of our famous April Fool’s jokes. Nope, it’s real (and the same label also has orchestral tributes to Madonna, Oasis, and most frighteningly, a punk compilation featuring “White Riot,” “Holiday in Cambodia,” “Pretty Vacant,” and all your favorite punk hits played by a full orchestra). Yeah, I suppose the music on this disc is pretty enough, but is there a demand? I don’t want to meet the people that will actually buy this record…
