Beauty in Darkness Vol. 3

Various Artists

Nuclear Blast

For those individuals curious about what’s been brewing in the gothic metal cauldron over the past year or so, look no further than the aptly titled Beauty in Darkness Vol. 3 . Featuring previously unreleased cuts by Crematory, Moonspell, Godgory, and Darkseed, Vol. 3 previews new albums by Dimmu Borgir, Dismal Euphony, and Sculpture, as well as offering such heavyweights as the consistently brilliant My Dying Bride, the oft-compelling Anathema, and the much-overrated Cradle of Filth. Hottest number: Daemonarch’s scorching “The Seventh Daemonarch,” which features three current members of Moonspell and is nowhere near as overbearing as them. Not a bum track in the bunch, which is quite a rarity for compilations: buy this and giddily plummet into the abyss.
