The more Belle and Sebastian side projects I hear, the more I realize how tremendously deep this Scottish pool of talent is. The Gentle Waves – “featuring players from Belle and Sebastian,” proclaims the sticker – certainly live up to their name, with vocalist Bel’s lullaby voice softly rippling like the wind through a wheat field. Soft instrumental touches flesh out these subtle and gently bemused songs.
