“strangelove”
Strangelove
Music from the Films of Stanley Kubrick
Silva Screen
A must have for Kubrick freaks, if only for the fine liner notes describing each film and music from David Wishart. And just in time for Kubrick’s posthumous “masterpiece,” Eyes Wide Shut . Mostly, Strangelove is too-scant on selections from the biggies. A couple of offerings from 2001: A Space Odyssey , Barry Lyndon , The Shining , and Dr. Strangelove . There’s the electronic version of “Ode To Joy” from A Clockwork Orange , the only offering from that film, which didn’t satisfy me. Likewise, there’s only one piece from Spartacus and Lolita . There’s an interesting suite from “the early films of Stanley Kubrick” by Gerald Fried, featuring music from Paths of Glory , The Killing , and Day of the Fight that more than make up for the worthless inclusion of “Surfin’ Bird” from Full Metal Jacket .
