Short Music For Short People

Fat Wreck Chords

“101 bands playing 30 second songs.” Or less. Similar ideas have been done before, and if I daresay, better (particularly Slap-A-Ham’s seven inch series of Bleeeeaaaarrrgghh comps). But then I suppose it depends on your tastes. Most of the Fat Wreck/Epitaph bands don’t interest me in the least, so a comp with bands mostly playing that style makes me shudder. The greatest thing about this comp is that since the songs are so short they are over that much quicker. Success for me is found with the bands on here who stray from that style (Dillinger Four, Avail, Bouncing Souls, and classics from Descendents, Circle Jerks, the Damned, D.O.A., D.I., Black Flag, and Poison Idea), with an extra-big, extra-shiny gold medal going out to Spazz for their power violence ditty “A Prayer For the Complete & Utter Eradication of All Generic Pop-Punk”: “Fuck your phony bands and shitty harmonies/ Bad melodic hardcore is the plague that you breed/ Go get fucked/ You’ll be run out of town in the chain wallet meltdown/ Ska and swing are far from best, and quit trying to be NOFX/ Hop from one trend to the next/ 30 seconds from now you’re gonna get wrecked.” And hell, give Fat Wreck a shiny medal too for the sense of humor to put it on there.

On an interesting side note, I just saw a call for submissions for a comp CD of 222 bands playing 20 second songs coming out on a label from Germany…
