This is Canadian singer-songwriter Mike Plume’s American debut album. Plume, who hails from the small town of Bonnyville in northern Alberta, has been on the road for about 12 years, honing his craft. A few years ago, after making some journeys to Texas and Nashville, Plume became enamored with the songwriting of John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett and the like. Plume was struck by how well their songs, which were generally played with a full band behind them, stood up to spare acoustic treatments.
Inspired by this new artistic vision, he returned to his hometown, wrote some new songs, assembled a band from the local musicians, and started preparing to move on to bigger things. He’s already convinced me and a lot of others that he will do it.
This is a very solid, basic rock and roll band that ought to find a good following with fans of Neil Young, Steve Earle, and Tom Petty. By the way, this release is Buddy Miller mastered and Buddy Miller approved, so it ought to be good for you. Nothing fancy or over-the-top here, just good songs, good musicians, a good mix of acoustic and high energy rock and roll, and the promise of a very enjoyable live show. The future looks very bright for these guys.
