Dub Narcotic Sound System/Jon Spencer Boosexposion

Sideways Soul

K

Hey, now here’s an interesting sundae. This record can strip, clean and reassemble a ‘72 Chevelle SS all by itself. It can render a “BEFORE” picture into a unrecognizable “AFTER”. It is Dub Narcotic Sound System and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, two of the longest band names in alternative music today, meeting for one over-too-soon royal rumble of a recording session. The fruits of this labor have been cropping up here and there, but here’s the raw footage. Calvin Johnson’s bassy voice resonates well with the Spencertron 2000’s hyperactive ranting (at least he lays off the “Boosexposion!” button) in most cases, and the combo of Dub’s dub and Blues Explosion’s blues explosion makes for some nice off-the-cuff moments. A loose catpure of what must have been an outrageously good time in the studio.
