Kings and Things
St. Augustine’s Kingpins recorded this 10-song CD here at Mirror Image in Gainesville (with mastering at Fuller Sound in Miami), so the production is first-rate. The songs fall into the midtempo guitar pop/rock genre, but not as wimpy as, say, Sister Hazel. All the songs are by singer-guitarist Chuck Nash, ably abetted by the rock-solid rhythm section of Rob Piazza and Barry Dunaway.
As you might expect there are contemplative relationship type songs (the standouts being “‘Til I Find A Way” and the title track) here, but also some more adventurous ones with different lyrical content (“Freaky In the Afternoon” and “Here We Go Again” are humorous looks at psychedelic usage and the rock band experience, respectively).
Very solid. Unless you require your music to be inaccessible or be over-the-top rocking, you’ll like this.
