Rock & Roll Evidence: You Were There

Methane Studios and Frank Mullen/Matteblack are joining forces for an evening of rock visuals entitled Rock & Roll Evidence: You Were There . Over fifty posters and photographs representing artists and events from the Echo Lounge will be on display. Complimentary refreshments will be served from 7pm-9pm; live music and drink specials afterward.

Methane Studios will present some of the beautiful, hand printed, silkscreened posters they’ve created for Echo Lounge, featuring such bands as Cibo Matto, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pavement, Superchunk and others. Frank Mullen will show stunning and energetic photographs of Jucifer, Poster Children, Cat Power, Nashville Pussy, and Smithwick Machine, plus previously unpublished photos of Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat and more.

Methane Studios is the brainchild of Mark McDevitt, Tim Caerbert, and Robert Lee. They started in a garage two years ago, designing and printing posters for the then-newly-opened Echo Lounge. Since their inception, they have created a full catalog of mind-blowing artwork for the rock ‘n roll genre. The victims include everyone from Hank Williams III to Fear. With the use of bold images, rich colors, and old school printing, Methane has breathed life into an art form that has been dormant in the Southeast for years – the silkscreen rock poster.

Frank Mullen has been photographing bands for many years, and is becoming one of the preeminent entertainment photographers in the Southeast. His work has been seen in Alternative Press , Creative Loafing , Flipside , Guitar World , Ink 19 , and others. Subjects and clients include Capricorn Records, Touch & Go Records, Music Midtown, the Atlantis Music Conference, Man or Astroman?, Jucifer, Moe, Stuck Mojo, and many more. Several of his photos have recently been acquired by the “Experience Music Project” museum, opening this summer in Seattle. ◼
