The Delta 72

000

Touch and Go

Swelling with organ, drums and wah, “Are You Ready?” is not only the first song on 000 , but a genuinely concerned question. Can you handle the Delta 72’s particular strain of gospel rock? You must be this tall to ride.

Strongly reminiscent of Thee Hypnotics’ days of soul, glitter and sin, the Delta 72 swagger through ten tracks of steam and sweat, hardly pausing for breath. “Just Another Let Down” has a swelling chorus accentuated by a sing-song electric piano riff and is easily the album’s highlight. “Hip Coat” is a short instrumental that quickly runs down the bands’ talents, including drummer Jason Kourkounis’ brutal percussive attack – his kit should file for a restraining order.

In comparison to earlier Delta 72 releases, 000 is less of a showcase for the band’s musical talents and more of an actual collection of songs.
