Brak Presents the Brak Album Starring Brak

Cartoon Network/Kid Rhino

I remember putting together skits on tape from when I was 8 till around when I was 14. I know this wasn’t unusual for people my age at the time, though I’m not sure the novelty of hearing your voice coming out a speaker is the same these days. Video and the internet have jaded the content provider in us all.

Brak, the lovable ex-villain and co-host from Space Ghost Coast to Coast, has produced the studio equivalent of these long-forgotten tapes. You get the feeling Brak is just hanging around the studio, chatting up the countless studio musicians and running up a spectacular tab while waiting for such luminaries as the Chieftains, Grape Ape, Diamond Dallas Page, and Freddie Prinze Jr., among others. And Brak has plenty of important things to sing about, such as the merits of beef logs (vis a vis cheese logs), the joy of being a cucumber, or of having a big fat squid in your refrigerator. Fellow SGC2C co-host Zorak appears on a few songs, taking the lead on a couple. Strangely, Space Ghost himself is absent.

The Brak Album ends up being something that works well across all ages, silly enough for young ones and sophisticated enough for us cynics. Brak manages to be pants-wetting funny without resorting to sex or potty humor, or double entendre, which is about a unique a style as you’ll find today. Feel the Brakness…
