Songs for the Jet Set
Volume 3
Jetset
This is (obviously) the third installment in the ongoing collection of ’60s era “smiley pop” that Jetset has released. As the bio points out, this is not a label collection, but a “group of UK artists doing Cinema Pop, a subgenre of their own invention inspired by soundtracks of the ’60s, either real or imaginary.” Okay, sure. In any case, the album is a wonderful collection of loungey, Austin Powers-esque pop by bands such as Tomorrow’s World, Loveletter, Death By Chocolate and Milky. There are plenty of vibe sounds, a touch of bossa nova, a few “ba ba ba ba bop” lyrics, and a generally groovy feel. A few of the standout tracks on the album are instrumental, sounding somewhat like the tracks on the Vampyros Lesbos soundtrack. While the happy-go-lucky sounds on this third collection could become annoying after too long, the disc’s length of just over 30 minutes allows the album to maintain its charming appeal throughout.
