Cinemaphonic: Electro Soul

Various Artists

Emperor Norton

The cover of Cinemaphonic features a nude woman in what appears to be a still from a 1960s European sex film. It’s an apt photograph for an album of music from, well, 1960s European sex films. With this in mind, I cued the disc up the last time I got down. Some of the tracks are pretty hot, evoking steamy black-and-white scenes of polyglot lust. Other tracks, however, weren’t quite what I was hoping for at the time – they were probably more appropriate for strobe-lit 1967-style body paint orgies (not that that’s a bad thing, mind you). Cinemaphonic definitely serves up some cool grooves evocative of a lost era in modern movies but stops short of pure sex.
