I was initially surprised to hear that the rapcore Factory 81 was putting out an album on Mojo Records, a label known mostly for acts like Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. I suppose that it wasn’t that big of a surprise, though — it seems to be the thing everybody is trying to cash in on these days. Unfortunately, there are many talented bands like Factory 81 who will probably be left behind in the mall-metal scene, just like the surplus of grunge rockers who were all left behind in the mid ’90s. Mankind is a good album, don’t get me wrong, but there is just an abundance of bands that sound like this these days. You know, heavy guitar parts, Tool-meets-Limp Bizkit vocals, just like all the stuff that you see on TRL. So if you want something new, Factory 81 probably isn’t going to be for you. If you are a fan of rapcore bands and can’t get enough of it, check them out.
