What Kinda

Pretty straightforward catchy pop/rock here, a bit on the harder edge of pop, but still it gets you with some nice hooks. The songs are all moving with a steady upbeat, sometimes moving down into a ballad-touched groove. There’s a heartbreak feel through most of the songs, boy loses girl, boy wants girl, boy loves girl, boy doesn’t get girl. I start thinking of the seventies sometimes, not like disco, but like Elton John, maybe. Or pulling towards more current sounds, there’s a Ben Folds Five ache in the moodiness and the swing of the songs and the crooning distortion of the vocals.
