Now here’s a solid, catchy, interesting release from Pennywise – ummm, I mean Bigwig. Sorry, sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between the two on this album. Aside from the similarities to everyone’s favorite Hermosa Beach punk outfit, Bigwig is engaging and talented. Some of the tracks change up the tougher Pennywise sound with pop-punk reminiscent of The Ataris. Perhaps a little less annoying though, because the singer doesn’t possess one of those high-pitched, whiny, emo-boy voices. “Moosh” is the best example of Bigwig’s pop-punk tendencies, and while I think it’s a sweet song, I think Bigwig should stick with the faster, harder style that they pull off so well. One song to skip at any cost: “Sore Losers.” The lyrics are so bad; I start blushing because I feel embarrassed for them. Other than that, An Invitation to Tragedy makes some great skating or running around music. Rock.
