Parasol’s Sweet Sixteen

Volume Four

Parasol

Cursed as I am with a short attention span, I have become a sampler junkie. I love being able to hear 20 cuts by 20 different bands all at once. Usually the signal to noise ratio is pretty good – out of 20, there will be four or five that will pique your interest enough to follow up on. Parasol’s comps have long been some of the more fruitful, and the latest volume is no exception. Firmly rooted in the pop world, it gathers folks such as June & the Exit Wounds, Adam Schmitt, and the prolific Southerner, Jack Logan. Standouts include the ominous “Make the World Go Away” from White Town and Absinthe Blind’s “Antarctica,” but all the cuts here are worth a listen. Big surprise: Neilson Hubbard’s take on the Howard Jones ’80s earfloss, “No One is to Blame,” which is actually almost enjoyable here. So, if you’re like me, and require constant new input, track this one down and keep your finger off the skip button.
