As Friends Rust

Won

Doghouse

Besides expanding the number of tracks from their debut EP to a full compliment of ten songs (the tenth is simply called “Ten”), style-wise, this continues in the emo-core vein, with nods to Gainesville predecessors like Radon, Spoke, and Hot Water Music. Although they’ve apparently decided that shitting in their own nest is not such a hot idea (a recurring theme of the EP: Gainesville sucks), this is still “tough guy with a buried sensitive side and some metallic licks” music that mainly works. Only misstep is the lyric in “Austin, We Have a Problem,” where the macho posturing backfires. Sorry, but whenever I hear “Fuck with the bull, you get the horns,” all I can envision is that idiotic vice principal from the movie The Breakfast Club. Very solid.
