Lanterna

Sands

Badman

Henry Frayne’s Lanterna continue to develop their droning soundscapes on their most recent release, a work of gentle atmospherics, hypnotic instrumentals and drifting melodies. More post-campfire than post-rock, Lanterna may be a bit too cozy and sedate for some of us, but theirs is a world of tranquility and subtlety that brings comfort without actually getting on your nerves while doing it. And if a few of the tracks, like “Early August,” transcend the boundaries of relaxation and go for full-blown Muzak, there is always the fine, doodling title track to balance things out.
