Leftover Salmon/Cracker

O Cracker, Where Art Thou?

Pitch-A-Tent

Now this is some fun stuff. You might not think the jam band mentality of Salmon would work well wrapped around the twisted pop of David Lowery and Cracker, but the two seem to be made for each other. Familiar Cracker moments such as “Sweet Potato” and “Mr Wrong,” recast with mandolins, banjos and such seem reborn. Hearing the slacker anthem “Low” in a more mournful tone than the original is great, and “Eurotrash Girl” sounds even more decadent than usual. Really, the only problem with the CD is its skimpy length, but that’s a quibble. Fans of Cracker, Salmon or the late great Camper (which this co-mingling of elements strongly resembles) will get a hoot out of this. Maybe it’s true that “what the world needs now is another folk singer like I need a hole in my head,” but be that as it may, no need to shoot yourself over this.
