Jen Elliott

The Secret’s Out

City Canyons

She may not be the most unique artist around, but former open mic-trotter Jen Elliott knows how to write decent pop songs infused with a healthy dose of soul, and sprinkled with the blues. The musicianship suffers from too much politeness, and Elliott’s vocal training sometimes results in an artificially strained style, but elsewhere she looks like an artist to watch for anyone into Little Feat or a more poppy Bonnie Raitt. Her best songs showcase her natural voice and fine songwriting skills. The amazing opener “Move,” the highly enjoyable ease of “I Can’t Concentrate” and the seducing title track will all convince the listener that Elliott has it in her to go much farther already on her next release.
