Gimme That Old-Time Sexism
New York Times review of two new TV series, “Desperate Housewives” and “Boston Legal.” I’m still planning to watch at least the beginning episodes of both.
But the writer, Alessandra Stanley, makes the point that both exemplify the fact that strong female characters are having a dry spell in the new season, while “bimbos” get top billing.
I like this article a lot for a number of reasons, but especially:
- She mentions “Veronica Mars” as an exception to this dry spell. You have all tried an episode, haven’t you?
- Nowhere in the article does she pine for the glory days of the not-at-all sexist in its final years “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.
