Lucia

From the Land of Volcanos

The Control Group

Lucia is the lovely and talented vocalist who once fronted Drill and later spent some time with the mighty KMFDM. This is her debut release for The Control Group, and while she may have been in KMFDM, this music does not represent that phase of her career at all.

From the Land of Volcanos was originally supposed to be released on Universal Records, but they dropped it after the recording had already been completed. She had to fight to get her record back from those jerky major label suits at Universal, but when she did, she didn’t have a label. She had some copies specially pressed to take with her on tour with KMFDM, selling them at shows, and the response was phenomenal. The people at The Control Group label offered to release it for her, and the rest is history.

Like I said, this album sounds nothing like KMFDM. But it is a pretty fun record nonetheless. Her voice is very reminiscent of Shirley Manson (Garbage), while the music itself is watered down rock. I probably would hate this album, were it not for how gorgeous Lucia’s voice is. She actually has a much greater vocal range than the aforementioned Garbage vocalist, and a lot more sensuality in her voice, as well. Fans of Mono, Tori Amos and The Cardigans’ last couple of records will really enjoy From the Land of Volcanos.
