An Eric Idle interview from 1999 is featured on NPR’s Fresh Air today; you can listen to it here. He performs a handful of songs live in-studio, including the classic “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” When he gets to the line–
“Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it,”
–you hear that great radio censorship thing where it sounds like it’s going backwards for a second, or someone’s bumped into a record player.
More importantly, his observations about what forms a comedian are absolutely inspired. Trust me.
