Produced by Ron Churchill of The Churchills, Everything Never Said is a slick, polished-sounding modern rock record by a band that is gaining rave reviews in their hometown of Hartford, CT. Yet, it’s an album that lacks the killer song that might signal bigger and better things for Seven Ender.
Songs like opener “Holding and Waiting,” the thumping “Sitting On Top Of The World” and “Perfect The Mold” are decent enough efforts, but overall the album feels a little too formulaic with too few songs memorable enough to warrant repeat listens. Ballsy rocker “You’re No God” perhaps comes closest to a tune that might prick the ears of A&R execs, with its infectious riff and energetic delivery. But the album overall just doesn’t have the wow-factor of other indie modern rock bands, especially Supercell.
It’s a shame, too, as Seven Ender’s production, packaging and effort are all first class. But it’s the songs that really matter, and until this band takes their writing to the next level, they seem destined to remain a big fish in a small pond.
