Mr Bush? Here’s your ass.
Bush Looks to Senate to Save Ports Deal
ANDREW TAYLOR
WASHINGTON – After an election-year repudiation by a GOP-led House committee, President Bush hopes to avoid getting steamrolled in the Senate over a deal allowing a Dubai-owned company to take control of some U.S port operations.
By a 62-2 margin, the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday voted to bar DP World, which is run by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from holding leases or contracts at U.S. ports.</i>
Looks as if this is developing into a line in the sand moment for Bush. He has vowed to veto any bill that derails this asine plot to put the ports in the hands of unfriendlies. So it is shaping up that those on the right, who have been scurrying like little rats to lick King George’s nethers, are faced with a quandry. Do they listen to the 70+ % of those who elected them and vote no on this, or do they tie themselves to Team Bush?
There is something more to this deal than meets the eye, and what that is, who knows. But considering the Bush family’s financial ties to Middle East money, (remember Harken Energy?), its most likely something stinky.
The TTP prediction? Senate votes no, Bush vetoes, Senate overrides veto- but the sale goes thru nevertheless. Look around, its not as if this administration is shy about disregarding laws it finds troublesome (hello, FISA). Could be war.
