Loud, noisy punk with a drummer that sounds like a roofing crew still has a place in the American rock scene. That’s the feeling I get after slogging through this competent rehash of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s sounds recycled from hundreds of forgotten bands who confused volume with energy and anger with art. Mercifully, none of the 8 tracks on this album clock in at more than 3 minutes, so they do get one of the mail style points of punk –keep it short.
What this band possesses is a promising sense of lyrics. If you take the time to read the microscopic print and hear what they sing, it’s pretty cool stuff with a strong sense of storytelling. I suppose after 10 or 20 spins I could pick words out, but the sonic assault is tiring. Rearrange these guys with some other band, and you might have something like a decent power-pop or folk band. Good lyrics, crummy music, Midwestern sensibility, and a cool cover graphic. That’s all you need to know to make an informed choice.
