Hi-octane punk-pop is Drive By’s speciality and thankfully, they are closer in style to the cerebral punk-poppers like Jimmy Eat World than the more formulaic bands of this genre.
It’s probably the relative diversity on offer that distinguishes I Hate Every Day Without You Kid… from albums by other emo bands, and when a band switches so effortlessly from such frenetic rockers as “Accidents” to the brilliantly atmospheric “Good Bye,” it’s easy to see why they were voted one of the “100 Bands You Need To Know About From 2006” by Alternative Press magazine.
The excellent rock-pop of “The Hand That Cuts” continues the high quality songwriting, whilst the bruising opener “You’re Not Alone” is an a potential anthem for a disaffected generation, with whom Drive By’s music easily connects. The melodic “Why Are You Following Me” and the surprising acoustic hidden track round things off impressively, proving that with bands like Drive By, you should never judge a book by its cover.
