New Arrivals: Volume Two

MPress Records

From the record label set up by the talented singer-songwriter Rachael Sage comes a project that unites a collection of terrific new music from a selection of independent artists, while at the same time raising money for World Hunger Year.

The worthy intentions behind the New Arrivals: Volume Two CD are matched by the quality of the unknown bands on show. From the dreamy rock of The Rideaways to the infectious pop of Pancho’s Lament, it’s clear that Sage and Mpress Records have chosen these artists wisely.

Former Spin Doctors frontman Chris Barron makes an appearance on the melancholic “Can’t Kick The Habit,” while indie trailblazer Melissa Ferrick closes the CD with a typically intense acoustic tune, “Closer.” Indie hopeful Todd Carey’s bluesy “Photograph” contrasts nicely with the sassy pop of Sage’s own “Lonely Streets” and the whole collection has an air of quality.

Like its predecessor (which is also being re-released and which supported victims of Hurricane Katrina), New Arrivals: Volume Two will raise the profile of the indie artists featured as well as much-needed funds for charity — a heart-warming combination in what is often perceived as a jaded music industry.
