Applause Cheer Boo Hiss

Rebel Group

Montreal’s Land of Talk has joined the likes of Cat Power, The Fiery Furnaces, Giant Drag and every other sultry, breathy but bold female led indie rock project to come along in the last 20 years and actually rock. The band, led by Elizabeth Powell, has put out a debut EP worthy of any music lover’s attention in Applause Cheer Boo Hiss. It will sound like nothing else you stumble across, and it will slowly sink its subtle sounds into your subconscious.

Songs like the irresistibly haunting “Speak Your Bones,” “Summer Special,” and “All My Friends” all recall Magnapop, Mazzy Star, PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth simultaneously without sounding like carbon copies of any of them. For fans who like their music soft and sexy, but with a punch.
