Triple Burner

Madrona Records

Well now, this sonic curiosity is just a flicker short of enchanting. To my ears, Triple Burner is an invigorating hybrid of Flatts and Scruggs, Leadbelly, Neu and Northwest droners, Earth. Spry and skilled musicians, the Triple Burner duo of Harris Newman (guitars) and Bruce Cawdron (percussion – also pounds the skins for Godspeed You! Black Emperor) adeptly execute the seven numbers herein with an acuity that borders on telepathy. The playing is fluid like mercury and remarkably assured, with no egos or pussyfooting. Half-remembered snatches of songs and hymns from times long ago surface and then abrutply disappear as new inspiration is seized upon. No vocals here, with such expressionist and lyrical interplay between guitars and drums, there’s no room for ‘em. Why not let your own voice lift up and sing along?
