This is why we say “Bush Lies”, or reality for redstaters
Go to any of the conservative websites, your basic Redstate.com, Powerline, etc, and whenever they mention someone pointing out yet another Bush mangling of the truth, they almost always put it in quotes…and more from the “Bush lied” crowd…, for example. The notion that their fearless leader could perhaps not be the paragon of virtue they fervently wish him to be is so upsetting that they refuse to acknowledge it.
So, for those few people left on the planet who don’t “get it”…this is just a single example of why those of us who know a liar when we hear them are correct about King George. Follow closely redstate.com’ers, this might be painful.
When Congress held hearings on Bush’s nominee to be the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Michael Mullen, back at the beginning of August, he said this:
Adm. Michael G. Mullen, President Bush’s nominee to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Senate panel yesterday that the war in Iraq is taking a heavy toll on the U.S. military, warning that American forces are “not unbreakable” and stressing the need to “plan for an eventual drawdown” of troops.
Appearing in a confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mullen, 60, acknowledged that the increase in U.S. forces cannot continue past April 2008 under the military’s current force structure. </em>
Boom. Surge ends in April. End of story. Nothing to do with the requirements on the ground, nothing about the Iraqis “stepping up”, nothing about increased or decreased levels of violence. Surge ends in April 2008 because of “the military’s current force structure”.
Simple, eh? Reported in a major newspaper for all to see. As was this:
Officials: Bush to announce troop cut
WASHINGTON – President Bush will tell the nation Thursday evening that he plans to reduce the American troop presence in Iraq by as many as 30,000 by next summer but will condition those and further cuts on continued progress, The Associated Press has learned.
Bush doesn’t “plan” to do anything. The timetable of the escalation of the war was set in stone before it started. This was acknowledged from the beginning. For Bush to attempt to look like a good guy by claiming responsibility for an action that he had no hand in is a…ok, wait for it…it’s a ….
Lie.
Bush lies. He lied us into the war, he’s lied to keep us there, and he’ll lie about ending or not ending it.
Bush lies. Everyone in the world with more than a smattering of brain cells know this. Which really makes the Groupies of Fearless Leader look a bit…uh…moronic.
