Truth to Power

Liberation?

In a speech marking the one year anniversary of the Iraqi invasion, George Bush said:

“Who would begrudge the Iraqi people their long- awaited liberation?”

Liberation has been the last “reason” to fall in the endless charade that is our stance in the Middle East. “50 million free” the supporters bellow. But what does liberation mean?

liberation: …the act or fact of gaining equal rights or full social or economic opportunities for a particular group.

Liberated people don’t suffer from this:

If you have oil, we’ll steal the profits from it.

You once had a health care system that was the envy of the region, now your people die untreated.

You once had a working infrastructure, now 60% of your people have no fresh water.

And finally, when invading mercenaries slaughter without cause your citizens, the illegal occupying government grants them immunity:

Immunity deal hampers Blackwater inquiry

WASHINGTON – The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month’s deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians, The Associated Press has learned.

Show me liberation. Show me freedom. Show me justice. Offer the world something other than hollow lies and hypocrisy.

Why do they hate us? Can anyone seriously ask this question?
