If we all dropped ecstasy instead of chugging beers at hardcore shows, we just might be prepared for Enter Shikari. Rave music for metal-core fans – if there are any of those out there.
This St. Albans foursome is attempting to take the metal-core genre somewhere new and I’ve got to open my ears to them for taking that step. The resulting onslaught of electronic effects (robotic voices included) and traditional metal and hardcore elements is not always soothing, but I get the distinct feeling that this could be one of those bands that only really makes sense when seen.
“Anything Can Happen in the Next Half Hour” and “Mothership” are the most successful tracks for what this brave bunch of kids are attempting to create with their sound. These guys will ride in on the same wave as their London neighbors Gallows, though they sound virtually nothing alike. Still, they’re both British and both yanking hardcore over to their side of the pond.
This style is not for everyone and most purists will hate it. It grows on you like a fungus after a few listens, however.
