Are You Ready for the Heartache Cause Here It Comes

Murder Mystery

I’m happy to report this indie pop band has a tap dancing drummer. I’ve never heard of those two skills in one group, but it makes perfect sense. Laura Coleman’s drumming sounds quite good — it’s energetic and exciting without taking over or interfering with her brother Jeremy’s surprisingly mature vocals. The pair recruited some of their friends to fill out the lineup: Adam Fels on Bass, and Kevin Jaszek on guitar and vocals. This tight little band features the pre-written love songs and laments, all performed in a upbeat manner that tells you with a wink and a finger to the nose the wounds are healed, or reciprocated so often they can’t tell the difference.

Opening cut “Who Doesn’t Wanna Give Me Love?” sets the tone, the question mark in the title is a bit enigmatic, as the complete lyric is “I don’t wanna meet anyone who doesn’t wanna give me love…” Farther along we hear “Honey Come Home”, which has the singer trying to recover from some romantic slight with “I put my hands on the small of your back.” I think that sounds pretty sexy.

Overall, this is a bouncy, tight band with a clean, happy sound, and the opportunity to make something of itself with its power pop love songs. Hope they make it down to Orlando some day.
