Somehow The Friggs escaped my attention during their heyday in the ’90s. How a band that sounds like a mix of Gore Gore Girls (and the ’60s girl groups who inspired them), The Ventures, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy managed to sneak under my radar, I can’t say. Lucky for me, a compilation of their vinyl singles and rarities found its way into my hands in the form of Today is Tomorrow’s Yesterday.
Led by the multi-faceted Palmyra Delran, The Friggs embody the spirit of a sea breeze on a sun-soaked face and the long, cool bottle of beer that washes the salt off the tongue after a day at the beach. Just in time for summer, this is an album poised for overplay in the upcoming months. It’s buried in a celebration of fun that is sorely missing from most contemporary albums.
