The Crash Moderns’ 2005 debut EP contained five songs of perfect, pure, unadulterated pop-rock that hinted at greater things to come for this New York-based five-piece. Unfortunately, a subsequent full-length album has taken three years to record and release, but Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster is well worth the wait.
Bursting out of the blocks with the infectious “This Time” from the EP, the band’s trademark retro and contemporary-influenced sound is perfectly showcased on the brilliant new song “Pimp My Life,” while the melodic “Notice Me” slows the frantic pace a little.
“Solid Gold” is an enjoyable homage to the ’70s glam-rock of Sweet etc., the melodic overload of “We’ve Got Tonite” and “Make It Stop” continue in a similar vein, and a re-worked version of the EP’s “Hello World” somehow improves on the original.
In the past few years, a relentless touring schedule has led to prestigious opening slots with the likes of Bon Jovi; hopefully the big hooks, big sound and big fun in evidence on Good Night Glamour, Good Morning Disaster mean that the big time beckons for the The Crash Moderns.
