Truth to Power

Birther tries to weasel out of deployment

Soldier balks at deploying; says Obama isn’t president

U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook, set to deploy to Afghanistan, says he shouldn’t have to go.

His reason?

Barack Obama was never eligible to be president because he wasn’t born in the United States.

Actually, Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, two years after it became a state.

Cook’s lawyer, Orly Taitz, who has also challenged the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency in other courts, filed a request last week in federal court seeking a temporary restraining order and status as a conscientious objector for his client.

In the 20-page document – filed July 8 with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia – the California-based Taitz asks the court to consider granting his client’s request based upon Cook’s belief that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. </em>

First off, I’m all for someone resisting the invitation to go slaughter innocent people. Get your status of CO, and stay stateside, fine.

But this birther nonsense? Back in 2004, when it became apparent that despite losing the vote- for the second election in a row- George Bush was going to be installed as President, quite a few of us pointed to the numerous cases of election fraud that occurred in Ohio, Florida and elsewhere that cast a doubt on the legitimacy of Bush winning reelection. And when we did, we were either jeered at or ignored. No one was able to get a court to force any sort of review of our laughably corrupt election scheme, but let a black man dare to sit in their White House, and the bobble heads of the right give full voice to every loony urban legend that comes down the pike.

These are the same people who believe Reagan was a good president, that “they hate us for our freedoms” and visit the Creation Museum. In a word, whackadoos. Let they persist, filling up the airwaves of Faux News with their insipid dribble, and now, attempting to sneak out of a contract to fight because they don’t happen to like who the President is this time around.

This nation is smothering itself in stupidity.
