Straight No Chaser

CD Review – Eva & the Heartmaker

Let’s Keep This Up Forever

Sony Music

When I first saw the cover of this album, with Eva Weel Skram, the cute blonde lead singer standing next to Thomas Stenersen, the goofy-looking hairy mastermind, the first thing I thought was that they were another version of either The Ting Tings or Mates of State. Thankfully, I was wrong. Eva and the Heartmaker make highly accessible radio pop that most Top 40 stations should be clamoring to get their hands on.

From the danceable “Let’s Hit the Road Jack” and “The Spell” to the slower “Life Still Goes On” to the killer “Possible Escape/Possible Mistake” this duo has made an album with 10 radio-friendly tracks that are all solid. It’s rare that you have a pop album in which every track is single-worthy, but Eva and the Heartmaker have done just that. This is a diamond hidden in the radio-friendly rough.
