A former lawyer and aspiring Hollywood agent, singer-songwriter Creede Williams has had an interesting career path so far. And his sophomore record After the Letters is almost as diverse as his résumé, with the material spanning rock, country, and folk.
With strong, crisp production from Cary Pierce, the record gets off to a terrific rocking start with the radio-ready opener, “Radio On” and the equally melodic “Get Away.” Debut album Something Borrowed excelled with a real laid-back vibe, a sound which continues on the superb, soulful “Telegirl” and the memorable “Dune Road.”
The mature pop-rock of “Given You” is new territory for Williams, but he pulls it off with panache, and the emotional duet “Letting You Down” continues the diversity evident throughout After the Letters. Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer appears again on the beautiful, folk-tinged album highlight “30 Days of June,” a song which could realistically take Williams to the next level.
After the Letters is an album of real depth and substance which proves Creede Williams’ credentials as singer-songwriter of undoubted charisma and talent. Hollywood’s loss is clearly music’s gain.
